The First Church Stoneham Food Pantry is staffed entirely by volunteers. There are several opportunities to serve at the Pantry. Volunteers are needed to pack food orders, pick up and process donations, and deliver food orders.

Volunteers MUST:

be able and willing to volunteer for a period of time and commit to a schedule

at least 18 years of age

complete and sign a release form

be capable of lifting at least 20 lbs

be vaccinated against Covid-19

Pack food orders for home delivery: (Currently no openings) On the third Tuesday of each month from 9:30 am-12 pm. Pack bags with fresh and frozen foods based on individual customer orders.
Assist guests on order pickup days: Weekly on Thursdays between 9:30-1:00 pm. Duties include set-up, greeting customers, carrying bags to vehicles, re-stocking shelves, and clean-up. Volunteers must be able to go up and down stairs carrying grocery bags.
Transport food from Merrimack Valley Food Bank in Lowell to First Church: Most pickups are scheduled for Mondays at 10:00 am. The volunteer must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle which can transport up to 500lbs of food. A strong back is required to load and unload the order as some boxes weigh up to 50lbs. The drive to the food bank, loading, return trip, and unloading at the pantry takes approximately 1.25 hours.
Deliver Orders to Homebound: Thursdays between 11:30 and 1:30 pm. Pickup client orders from the pantry and deliver to their homes. Must have a valid drivers license and a reliable vehicle. The volunteer must be able to carry multiple grocery bags up stairs and into elevators.
Process food donations: (Currently no openings) Check dates, sort and box up community food donations, and stock pantry shelves.
